கோவில் புனைவுகள்

       வடமேற்குத் திசையில் பண்டைக் காலத்தில் விசிஷ்ட முனிவர்கள் செய்த தவத்தின் பயனாய் பராசக்தியான பகவதி காட்சியளித்தாள். பிற்காலத்தில் கண்ணாடிப் புழையின் கரையில் அமைந்துள்ள சடனாம்குறிஸ்ஸியில் கோவில் உண்டாக்கி பகவதியை ஆராதித்து வந்தனர். பின்னர் அவ்விடத்தில் நிகழ்ந்த பிராமணர்வதம் முதலான காரணங்களால் கோவில் நாசம் அடைந்து அவ்விடம் முழுவதும் காடாக மாறிவிட்டது

       பின்னர் கண்ணாடியிலிருந்து அங்கு விறகு சேகரிக்க சென்ற பெண்களுக்கு ஒரு சிலை கிடைத்து அவர்கள் அதை வீட்டிற்கு கொண்டு சென்றார்கள். தேவியின் சிறப்பை உணர்ந்து அந்த சிலையை அங்கு வாழ்ந்து வந்த பெரும் பணக்கார குடும்பத்தை ஒப்படைத்தார்கள். அவர்கள் இப்போதையை கோவிலைக் கட்டி சிலையை ப்ரதிஷ்டை செய்து பூஜை முதலியான காரியங்கள் தடையின்றி செய்து வந்தார்கள்

       പണ്ടുകാലത്ത് കണ്ണാടി പുഴയുടെ വടക്കു പടിഞ്ഞാറ് ഭാഗത്ത് കഠിന തപസ്സനുഷ്ടിച്ചിരുന്ന ബ്രാഹ്മണ സന്യാസിമാരുടെ മുന്നിൽ പരാശക്തിയായ ദേവി പ്രക്ത്യക്ഷപെട്ടു. പിന്നീട് കണ്ണാടിപ്പുഴയുടെ തീരത്തുള്ള ചടാനാംകുറുശ്ശിയിൽ ക്ഷേത്രം പണികഴിപ്പിച്ചു ദേവിയെ ആരാധിച്ചു വന്നു.

       പിന്നീട്, അവരുടെ ദുഷ്ട പ്രവർത്തികളുടെയും പാപകർമ്മങ്ങളുടെയും ഫലമായി ബ്രാഹ്മണരും ആ പ്രദേശവാസികളും മരണപ്പെടാൻ ഇടയായി. അങ്ങിനെ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ പ്രസക്തി നഷ്ട്ടപ്പെട്ടു. തത്‌ഫലമായി ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ അവസ്ഥ വളരെ മോശമായി നാശത്തിന്റെ വക്കിലെത്തി. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനുണ്ടായ എല്ലാ തകർച്ചക്കും മീതെ, പ്രതിഷ്ഠയുടെ ശക്തി വിളങ്ങി നിന്നു. കാലക്രമേണ ആ പ്രദേശം മനുഷ്യർ പോകാത്ത കൊടും കാടായി മാറി.

       പിൽക്കാലത്ത് ആ കാട്ടിൽ വിറകു ശേഖരിക്കാൻ പോയ സ്ത്രീകൾക്ക് ചൈതന്യവത്തായ ഉപാധി ലഭിക്കുകയും അവർ അതിനെ വീട്ടിൽ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു പൂജിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. ദേവിയുടെ ശക്തി മനസ്സിലാക്കിയ അവർ, പിന്നീടാ വിഗ്രഹത്തെ അവിടെയുള്ള പ്രഭു കുടുംബത്തെ ഏൽപ്പിച്ചു. ആ പ്രഭു കുടുംബം ഇപ്പോഴുള്ള ക്ഷേത്രം പണികഴിപ്പിച്ചു ആരാധന നടത്തി വന്നു.

 

History and Legends

             The Goddess divinely appeared to bless the most revered Bhrahmin saints for their continuous rigorous penance done at the north-western side of Kannadi River (Chadanamkurrussi). They made a temple there and worshipped the Goddess. Due to the ill effects of their bad deeds and sins, people in and around the Brahmin saints along with them got killed and the temple lost its prominence. The condition of the temple became very bad and was almost extinct.The place became a deserted forest and unapproachable. Despite all the damages to the Temple the deity remained powerful.

              Some old ladies who went there to collect firewood came across the saintly idol, took it home and started worshipping it. Later as they became aware of the serenity of the idol they handed over the idol to the nearby lordly family. The Lordly family in their turn took it to the northern side of the divine pond and started worshipping it by constructing the temple.
